The role of Technical and Community Colleges in Reducing Housing Costs by Offering Housing and Housing Scholarships to Top-Performing Students.
Thesis
Local housing costs can be decreased by providing housing scholarships to high-achieving students attending technical and community colleges.
Outline
Campuses have different zoning standards for housing residential areas, allowing dorms to be constructed with fewer features in less space. This is the least expensive way to provide housing to the most people.
Providing housing allows students to focus on studies, rather than working, while in school; supporting students in pursuing new careers removes them from both the housing and job markets; once they complete their studies or training, they will re-enter the job market with greater earning potential and the housing market with greater buying power.
This deflates pressure on local housing markets, decreasing demand for their least expensive housing, making more homes and apartments available at lower costs.
Design imperative
Create “neighborhood campuses” that provides for residential students, commuters and local residents, and serve the local and greater community.
